The Next Steps...

We've been to Cleveland and back today and we are home trying to process everything that we heard. The good report is that Eric is doing exceptionally well recovering from major surgery not even 2 weeks ago. Dr. Lane also verified for us again that he feels that they removed all of the cancer during surgery and at this point in time, he is cancer free. The pathology reports tell the rest of the story and send us into a new part of the journey. The results are that the cancer was malignant. The other part of the report is that this type of cancer has a high risk of reoccurrence. The Cleveland Clinic has asked Eric to consider taking part in a clinical study. The study will include treatments that Eric will take orally at home for approximately a year. He will be tested and checked on a regular schedule to look for any reoccurrence. The 2 drugs that Eric will take are FDA approved. However, since he is reported cancer free at this time, they are not an option as normal treatment. By taking part in this clinical study, he will receive the treatments to reduce the risk of reoccurrence. Participating in the study allows proactive treatment and more hope for reducing the chance of reoccurrence. We feel that the clinical study is the best option. It will not start until December, 2008. Eric must recover completely from this surgery first and build up his physical endurance for the treatments.

Remember... we are taking one day at a time and thanking God for the option of treatment. We are overwhelmed with the news but continue to be encouraged by the care that Eric is receiving in Cleveland. We know that the people of God are praying continually for healing and we ask that you continue those prayers. Please pray that Eric can regain his strength and return to his normal daily routine soon. Pray that Eric's strength is renewed and he is ready for the start of treatment in December. There is always hope and for that we are thankful. And, we thank everyone for your support, love and prayers during a time in our lives when we need it the most.

Eric,
Andy and I spent some time around the fire tonight and we have it all figured out!
Get Better!
Seriously, You and your family are in my thoughts and prayors all day every day, and I have nothing but confidence that you are going to shine as a light through this. Keep pushing yourself a little farther and a little harder each day, and pretty soon you'll be farther and harder. LOL
Love you man.

Dear Eric and family,

Got the address from Andy Grime at the golf course. Read the good news so far and am happy to hear it. I may try to stop by one day after work in the future when your stronger. Will keep praying for you, continue to fight the good fight buddy and you will be hitting them long and straight before you know it. Good luck, Steve Reiniche and family.
