The appointment in Cleveland didn't really give us anything new from what I had blogged last week. It went as expected. There wasn't any news that we hadn't already heard. The doctor wants Eric to finish with his last 3 radiation treatments this week. When those are done, he needs to be off treatment for 2 weeks. We will call Cleveland in a couple of weeks and if Eric is feeling good, he will start the next drug in line. This treatment is similar to the first drug, Sutent with less intense side effects. Because it is the same sort of drug as far as how it treats the cancer cells, some patients respond to the drug but others do not. There is always that possibility with every new drug that he starts. It makes Eric a little nervous to have to wait 2 weeks to start treatment but we have to put our trust in the professionals. There are apparently risks with mixing the drug with the effects of the radiation in his body.
Yesterday was a tough day for Eric but he was better today. He has been through so much and it would wear on anyone after this long dealing with pain, all of the doctors, hospitals, appointments, etc. When he doesn't feel good and then combines that with everything else it becomes overwhelming. He is definitely feeling better because of the surgery he had last week. We are very thankful for that.
So, we wait another 2 weeks for the next step. It feels good to know that radiation is almost over. We have been released from the lymph node therapy and do that at home on our own now. Each day is a special gift... we're making the best of each one. Eric is unbelievable strong even on his toughest of days. Thanks for the prayers and love that make that possible. Eric and Gwen
