2009 - A New Year of Blessings

It's already been a month since Eric's last appointment in Cleveland and 4 months since his surgery in September. Life feels so normal right now that it seems impossible to remember how sick he was just 4 months ago. Considering the major surgery that he had, his recovery has been amazing. Putting it in perspective, Eric and his buddies spent a day in the woods a few weekends ago and filled up the wood shed with all the wood we need for next winter. He felt all of the muscles he used that day for several days following but he said it felt so good just to be able to do that again. Last weekend and now today, he is out on the snowmobile enjoying the wonderful winter weather. I'm not talking about a half hour of riding but the entire day of riding to who knows where. It is great to see him enjoying life again.

Our holidays were wonderful and quiet. Christmas Eve worship was awesome and our family celebrations were extra special this year. We have so much to celebrate as we celebrate the gift of God's son and His love and faithfulness in our lives. None of us knows what 2009 has in store but we do know that God carried us through the past 6 months and that He will continue to carry us today and every day to come. Eric's next appointment for a CT scan is March 19th. We pray that we get the same report that we got in December or better yet, no lesions at all. When I think about how big the cancer was inside of Eric, it still amazes me that he has not had to start any sort of treatments. Even the oncologist can't say for certain that what he sees in the lungs is the cancer reoccurring. Those are naturally his suspicions but there is nothing conclusive enough to start any sort of treatment care.

Many others in our lives are struggling with this disease as well and also live with the day to day thoughts and concerns of cancer. We think of them often with a new awareness of the struggles they face. It changes lives forever in a way that cannot be explained. We continue to thank all of you who are praying for Eric and our family. The prayers of the people have given us this day... and Eric will enjoy it riding the sled and feeling the freedom of God's creation... his favorite place to be... in His great outdoors.

God's blessings to all... Eric, Gwen, Emily and Adam
