The news we would never be ready for...

Today happened and it was more painful than we could ever imagine. I blogged last time stating that Eric would start the drug in hopes that it would reduce the swelling and other issues related to the cancer. However, after a week back on the drug, it is evident that the drug is not working. We talked with the doctor in Cleveland again today and we totally trust his professional opinion. He has assured us that there are no longer any drugs available to fight the cancer in Eric's body. So, as we expected, he recommended a call to Hospice and I made that phone call this afternoon. They will be coming to talk with us and the kids tomorrow sometime.

Eric wanted me to let everyone know that he hasn't stopped fighting but has decided to submit to God's will. He can no longer live every day getting up in the morning, moving to the chair and going back to bed at the end of the day. We thank our God for almost 3 years of time from the original diagnosis. We have memories to cherish forever and Eric will be freed from his pain and healed forever.

We ask that no one tries to visit Eric. It is so tough for him emotionally to face people in his condition. We certainly want to thank everyone for the prayers and support so generously poured out for Eric on this journey. We ask now that you pray that we can find the strength to finish this journey together, united as a family, sustained by God's love and grace. We know no timing in any of this but we know that hospice will help us through it and that your prayers will lift us up. With love, Eric and Gwen

I'm so sorry. I love you all. As tough as this is, Eric is wise to leave it up to God. He's a fighter - there's no doubt about that. He's wupped me plenty of times on those snowmobiling trips in late night snowball fights, and I'll never doubt his stamina! But as a mortal human being he has clearly fought as hard or harder than he needed to. I'm proud that he sees some things are bigger than us. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Eric, Gwen, and family,
I'm Sabrina's college friend, Maribeth, and I've been following your battle for quite some time now. Please know that people like me, who you met once a thousand years ago and who live miles away, are holding you in their prayers and surrounding you with love.

Eric, you have fought the good fight and you have never quit. You are a great husband, a great father, a great son, a great brother and you have always been my great friend for over 40 years, you will never be forgotten by any of us. I have prayed non-stop for complete healing for you, now my prayers are for complete peace and a new life without pain and suffering. God promises these gifts for those who come to him heavy laden, he will grant you that peace because I know you believe. It has always been my great gift from God to call you my friend, I am a better person today because Eric Grisier was part of my life. I love you always. I am here for you.

Your friend,
David
